One of the talking
points of the season so far for the blaugranes has been the explosion on to the
scene of Lamine Yamal. The winger has quickly become a key figure for
first team coach Xavi Hernández and in his short career so far, the teenager
has already set a series of records. With the international break upon us, we
take a look at those landmarks.
Lamine Yamal set his
most recent record by scoring against Granada on Sunday to become the youngest ever goal scorer
in La Liga history at 16 years and 87 days, eclipsing a record set by Málaga's
Fabrice Olinga back in 2012. The forward also becomes the youngest Barça league
goalscorer, beating the previous record held by Ansu Fati by more than a
year.
Last Wednesday Lamine
Yamal also set a record in the Estádio do Dragão in Portugal when he was the
youngest ever starter in the Champions League when he was included in the
starting XI in the 1-0 win over FC Porto.
Back on 20 August the
teenager became the youngest ever starter for Barça when he was in the line up
for the 2-0 win at home to Cádiz, also becoming the youngest starter in La Liga
since the start of the century.
Lamine Yamal had made
his debut for the Barça first team last season in week 32 of La Liga in a game
at home at Spotify Camp Nou against Betis. At just 15 years, 9 months and 25
days he became the youngest ever Barça player in league history and the fifth
youngest of all time.
Lamine Yamal's
performances in a Barça shirt led to a call up to the full Spanish national
side and the forward made his debut at the age of just 16 years and 57 days.
Furthermore, not only did he beat team mates Gavi's record to become the
youngest to play for Spain, Lamine Yamal also scored the final goal in the 7-1
win over Georgia to become the youngest ever goalscorer also.
Records already set
and there are surely more to come.
