A group, christened: “Justice for Afe Babalola
Legacy,” has admonished Nigerians to shun needless distractions, particularly
on the social media, on the defamation suit filed against Dele Farotimi by the
legal icon and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Aare Afe Babalola.
The group at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, urged
Nigerians to be guided by the truth, alleging that the current narrative was
skewed towards a narrow misrepresentation of the truth.
Publicity Secretary and spokesman of the group, Mr.
Rotimi Opeyeoluwa, said it was wrong for any right-thinking person to allege
persecution in the ongoing trial, stressing that there was no persecution but a
judicial prosecutorial process at play.
He vowed that the group shall remain in the courts and
ensure that justice is served to both Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) and Mr. Dele
Farotimi.
According to him, Aare Afe Babalola cannot be
rubbished by upstarts or emergency human rights advocates whose stock in trade
is to trade in lies and bullying.
Opeyeoluwa pointed out that advocacy is not the same
thing as pending lies and resolutely failing to present as much as a shred of
evidence to back claims that have been permanently put into a self-published
book.
