An Abuja High Court has adjourned the hearing in a ?5.5 billion defamation suit filed by two operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

Justice Yusuf Halilu adjourned the matter to November 12, 2025, following the absence of SERAP’s counsel, Ebun Adegboruwa (SAN), who wrote to the court explaining he had a matter before the Court of Appeal in Lagos.

The claimants, Sarah John and Gabriel Ogunleye, accused SERAP of defaming them in a publication alleging that they unlawfully invaded the organisation’s office, thereby damaging their reputation as law-abiding officers.

They are seeking ?5.5 billion in damages and a perpetual injunction restraining SERAP from making further defamatory statements.

Counsel to the claimants, Akinlolu Kehinde, did not oppose the adjournment request, prompting Justice Halilu to fix November 12 for SERAP to open its defence.
