Former England international and Feyenoord winger
Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving following a road
accident involving his Lamborghini on the M3 motorway in Hampshire.
According to police, officers responded to reports of
a Lamborghini colliding with motorway barriers near the Minley Interchange on
the southbound carriageway at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 28.
Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were
involved in the crash and that no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the driver, identified as a
31-year-old man from Berkshire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of
driving while unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C
drug, and failing to provide a specimen.
Police said the suspect has since been released on
bail while investigations continue.
Sources familiar with the matter identified the driver
as Raheem Sterling, who currently plays for Dutch club Feyenoord after joining
the team earlier this year.
Sterling rose to prominence after progressing through
Liverpool’s youth system before establishing himself as one of the Premier
League’s top wingers. During his career, he enjoyed a successful spell at
Manchester City, winning multiple domestic titles, and later featured for
Chelsea and Arsenal.
At the international level, Sterling earned 82 caps
for England and scored 20 goals, playing a key role in several major
tournaments for the national team.
A source close to the footballer suggested that recent
years have been emotionally challenging for Sterling, citing the psychological
impact of feeling overlooked despite his contributions to club and country.
Police investigations into the circumstances
surrounding the crash and the allegations remain ongoing.
