Kano Fire Service Rescues Woman, Toddler and Another Victim from Separate Well Incidents

The Kano State Fire Service has successfully rescued three individuals, including an 18-month-old child, from separate well incidents in Kumbotso and Warawa Local Government Areas of the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed the development in a statement, noting that the rescues took place between 7:06 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred in the Semegu area near El-Sadeeq Bread in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where an unidentified man believed to be about 40 years old reportedly fell into a well.

Following a distress call, firefighters from the State Headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene. The victim was rescued unconscious and subsequently handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer of the Panshekara Police Division, Salisu Salihu, for further investigation.

In a separate operation, emergency responders were called to Madarin Taba Village in Warawa Local Government Area after reports that a woman and her child had fallen into a well.

The victims were identified as 32-year-old Maimuna Shitu and her 18-month-old son, Harisu Muntari. The Fire Service stated that the woman was reportedly living with a mental health condition.

Rescue personnel arrived promptly and successfully pulled both victims from the well. They were rescued unconscious and handed over to the village ward head, Yusuf Surajo, and the woman’s father, Muhammad Shitu.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding both incidents.

Reacting to the rescues, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to prioritize safety by ensuring that wells are properly covered and secured to prevent accidents.

He also advised parents, guardians, and caregivers to pay close attention to children and other vulnerable individuals, particularly those with health-related challenges, in order to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
