As per The Telegraph, the takeover of Newcastle United by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund was
controlled by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
This is proven through some Whatsapp chat
messages shared between former Newcastle director Amanda Staveley and an
anonymous source.
The chats indicate that Staveley repeated told
the source that Bin Salman was overseeing the takeover process and was directly
involved in it.
On August 6, 2020, Staveley even told the
source that 'The UK Saudi ambassador spoke to the Crown Prince this morning,'
to indicate that he was involved in it.
The Premier League initially blocked the Saudi
Arabia Public Investment Fund's attempts to take over ownership of Newcastle as
it believed the entity to be directly linked with the Saudi Arabia government.
But with the necessary legal help, the Saudi
Public Investment Fund members were able to prove that they were separate from
the Saudi state, even though it's clear that isn't the case at all.
