The Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, Ogun State, will commence direct commercial flights to Abuja on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with operations scheduled twice weekly.

Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed the development on Tuesday via his official X account, disclosing that the flights will be operated by ValueJet, one of Nigeria’s emerging airlines.

According to the approved schedule, flights will depart the Gateway International Airport every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m., while return flights from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, will take off on the same days at 4:00 p.m.

“We are delighted to announce that full flight operations will officially commence at the Gateway International Airport on October 7th, 2025. This milestone moment will begin with direct commercial flights between Ogun State and Abuja, operated by ValueJet,” Abiodun stated.

Ticket sales for the inaugural operations opened on September 25, 2025, via online booking platforms, accredited travel agents, and airport ticket desks.

Governor Abiodun noted that the launch of commercial services marks a significant step toward positioning Ogun State as a hub for aviation, commerce, and industrial growth. He emphasized that the flights will boost connectivity with the Federal Capital Territory, stimulate economic activity, attract investors, and ease travel for residents and visitors.

  • Facilities: The airport boasts a 4-kilometre runway—the longest in Nigeria—a modern terminal, advanced air traffic systems, and a state-of-the-art control tower designed to handle both passenger and cargo traffic.
  • Future investment: French aerospace giant Dassault Aviation is exploring the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the site as part of the wider Gateway Airport and Aerotropolis project.
