The Delta State chapter of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to speculation surrounding Governor
Sheriff Oborevwori’s rumoured defection to the party, dismissing it as
insignificant and inconsequential, saying APC is “not rehabilitation camp for
failed politicians.”
In a strongly worded statement signed by its State
Publicity Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC described Governor
Oborevwori’s tenure has been marred by underperformance, widespread
disappointment, and the inability to deliver meaningful development to the
people of Delta State.
The statement emphasized that while the APC respects
the right of individuals to associate with a political party of their choice,
the party is not concerned about the governor’s possible defection, given his
alleged lack of tangible achievements since assuming office. The APC accused
Governor Oborevwori of squandering Delta State’s resources, despite receiving
over ?50 billion in federal allocations monthly.
“Governor Oborevwori’s tenure has been marred by
underperformance, widespread disappointment, and the inability to deliver
meaningful development to the people of Delta State,” the statement read.
“Deltans are disillusioned by the glaring failures of this administration, and
we remain steadfast in our mission to bring sustainable development through
visionary leadership.”
The APC reiterated its commitment to its core
principles of progress, accountability, and good governance, dismissing any
suggestion that the party would serve as a refuge for politicians seeking to
salvage their political careers. “The Delta APC is not a rehabilitation camp
for failed politicians or those seeking redemption for their shortcomings,” the
statement declared, adding that true leadership requires integrity, capability,
and a commitment to the welfare of the people.
The party also criticized what it called the state
government’s reliance on social media propaganda to portray an illusion of
progress. It described the administration’s attempts to highlight imaginary
achievements as laughable, further accusing Governor Oborevwori’s allies of
working overtime to “launder the spectacular failures” of his government.
While acknowledging the governor’s occasional praise
of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s developmental strides, the APC noted that its
priority remains ensuring that Delta State is not left behind in the
president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. The party urged Deltans to focus on electing
leaders who are genuinely committed to driving growth and prosperity in the
state.
“Delta APC will continue to build on its foundational
ideals of inclusive governance, development, and progress,” the statement
added. “We remain dedicated to providing the leadership that the people of
Delta deserve, one that prioritizes honesty, accountability, and the long-term
welfare of the state.”
As the speculation around Governor Oborevwori’s
political future continues, the APC has made it clear that it is uninterested
in political opportunism or party affiliations driven by personal gains.
Instead, it reiterated its commitment to delivering leadership that places the
development and progress of Delta State at its core.
The statement reaffirms the APC’s determination to
uphold the values of integrity and transparency, urging Deltans to remain
vigilant and focused on supporting leaders who have a track record of putting
the people first.
