The Nigerian Army has announced the interception of a
major drug courier and the recovery of a large consignment of substances
suspected to be Cannabis Sativa by troops of the 12 Brigade in Kogi State.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Tuesday, the
Army said the operation is part of sustained efforts to disrupt criminal
networks and cut off the supply of illicit substances that fuel banditry and
violent crimes across the region.
According to the statement, the interception occurred
on 24 November 2025 when troops at the Agbede Response Area conducted a
routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU,
travelling from Ekiti State to Obajana.
The vehicle, driven by Johnson Ayo, raised
suspicion after soldiers observed a branded police hat and belt displayed on
the dashboard. A detailed search of the car led to the discovery of 10 sacks
of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed inside the
vehicle.
Preliminary investigations, the Army noted, indicate
that large-scale drug trafficking operations such as this often provide
financial backing for criminal groups and contribute significantly to banditry
within Kogi and neighbouring states.
The suspect and the recovered contraband have been
handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State
Command, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting
national counter-narcotics efforts, degrading criminal enablers, and enhancing
the safety and security of citizens.
The statement was signed by Lieutenant Hassan
Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade,
Nigerian Army, and dated 24 November 2025.
