No one can argue that he hasn't added immense value to Liverpool Football Club since he joined them exactly on October 8, 2015.
From that time till now, Jurgen Klopp has so transformed the fortunes of the club that it is difficult to imagine what could happen when he leaves.
Klopp's magic on Liverpool has been remarkable. In eight years, the German has brought so much joy to Anfield, winning the Premier League -- a thing considered a feat on account of the fact that the Reds had not won the title in 30 years before then -- winning the UEFA Champions League, the European Super Cup as well as the FIFA Club World Cup.
His team's performance levels may have dropped in the years after that but he is still a hero at Anfield.
And talking about dwindling fortunes. Last season had been particularly challenging for the Reds as they finished outside the Top Four, thus failing to pick a UEFA Champions League slot for the first time in many years.
Their 5th place finish behind the likes of Newcastle, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City ensured that they were only fit to compete in the second tier, Europa League.
This season, after splashing the cash to strengthen his squad following the exits of of Robert Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and a host of others, Klopp's team has kicked off the new season, looking sharper and better constituted.
However, controversies have dogged their every step in recent weeks. Klopp have had to fight the multiple misfortune of seeing his players sent off in some ill-tempered games, as well as being hard done by by VAR.
Penultimate week's highly controversial loss to Tottenham Hotspur was followed by a late capitulation which saw his team ending up with a draw against Brighton in a match many astute watchers felt they should have won.
Liverpool had led through Mohamed Salah's two goals following an initial scare that saw them going behind to a Simon Adingra goal against Brighton.
But a certain Lewis Dunk's late leveller would prevent Liverpool from taking home all three points, thus spoiling what would have been a worthy celebration for Klopp on the same day he joined the club eight years prior.
The German will always remember that he couldn't clink glasses to celebrate his 8th year anniversary which incidentally was the 8th day of the month of October, 2023. Was it an act of providence then, or a mere coincidence?
