Istanbul, Turkey — In what could be one of the most
sensational moves of the summer, Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has
emerged as a top transfer target for Turkish champions Galatasaray, following a
contract impasse with fierce rivals Fenerbahçe.
According to Turkish journalist Zeki Uzundurukan,
editor-in-chief of Fotomac, Galatasaray are closely monitoring Osayi-Samuel’s
situation and have already initiated contact with the player’s representatives.
The 26-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, could become
the latest high-profile switch across the Istanbul divide — a move reminiscent
of Michy Batshuayi's transfer last year.
“Galatasaray are in the game for Osayi,” Uzundurukan
said via GsGazette. “The transfer could mirror the Batshuayi deal. There’s no
transfer fee involved — just agree on salary, and he’ll play. He knows the
league and there’s no foreigner limit. It’s a win-win.”
Osayi's Situation at Fenerbahçe
The versatile right-back has seen reduced playing time
this season, largely due to Jose Mourinho’s tactical switch to a back-three
that favors Mert Müldür in Osayi-Samuel’s natural position. Despite this,
Fenerbahçe remain eager to retain the Nigerian international and have
reportedly made multiple contract offers since last summer.
However, Osayi-Samuel has turned down each proposal,
seeking improved financial terms and more consistent playing opportunities.
Fenerbahçe, determined not to lose him on a free transfer, are now said to be
preparing a blockbuster offer that could make him one of the club’s highest
earners.
Osayi Speaks Out
Following Fenerbahçe’s recent 4-1 win over Sivasspor,
Osayi-Samuel addressed the speculation surrounding his future, urging fans to
stay grounded amid the swirling rumors.
“This is a
difficult subject to comment on,” he said. “Everyone talks as if they know
everything. I’m happy to play for Fenerbahçe. There’s a perception that the
contract came and I didn’t accept it. I have a very good dialogue with the
president. My only goal and thought is to become champions with Fenerbahçe.”
Despite his public commitment, sources close to the
player suggest he would be open to a move to Galatasaray if a return to the
English Premier League — his preferred destination — does not materialize.
A Heated Transfer Battle Ahead
With tensions always high between Galatasaray and
Fenerbahçe, a direct switch could ignite fierce reactions from fans. But for
Osayi-Samuel, the prospect of regular playing time, Champions League football,
and a starring role in Victor Osimhen’s new-look Galatasaray could be too
tempting to ignore.
As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes
will be on Istanbul — and on one of Nigeria’s most dynamic footballers — as a
high-stakes decision looms.
