The Abia State Police Command has arrested a
52-year-old man over his alleged involvement in a kidnapping operation in the
state.
According to preliminary findings by the police, the
suspect is believed to be a member of a kidnapping gang linked to a recent
abduction incident.
Police operatives reportedly tracked him after
receiving actionable intelligence that connected him to the location where a
victim was being held.
During the operation, officers successfully rescued
the kidnapped victim, who had reportedly been in captivity before the police
intervention.
A sum of money suspected to be ransom was also
recovered at the scene.
Security officials described the arrest as a major
breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and violent crime across
Abia State, especially in areas identified as security flashpoints.
In a statement issued by the command, the Commissioner
of Police reaffirmed the commitment of the police to sustained operations
against kidnapping syndicates and other violent criminal groups.
The command said efforts are ongoing to arrest other
members of the network who are still at large.
Police authorities also assured residents that
surveillance, patrols, and intelligence gathering would be intensified across
strategic locations in the state.
The command urged members of the public to continue
supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that
could help prevent crime and track suspects.
The arrested suspect is currently in police custody
and is assisting investigators.
