Another batch of 271 Nigerians has been successfully
evacuated from South Africa as the Federal Government continues its
repatriation exercise following anti-immigrant protests in the country.
The aircraft conveying the returnees landed at the
Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday morning.
The latest operation marks the fourth evacuation
flight organised by the Federal Government since anti-immigrant demonstrations
intensified in South Africa.
The protests have seen some South Africans call for
undocumented foreign nationals to leave the country, accusing them of taking
jobs and contributing to criminal activities.
With the arrival of the latest group, the total number
of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa has risen to 874.
