Chairman of the Sports Management Committee (SMC) of
Achievers Cup 2024, Ike Okorafor has stated profound delight and gratitude over
the successful completion of this year’s competition.
Speaking to sports247.ng after the closing ceremony of
the eight-month recreational contest among members of Island All-Stars Sports
Club (IASC), Okoroafor said he can now relax and relish the joy of success.
While also noting the huge impact of Providus
Bank in sponsoring the competition, Okoroafor reeled out factors that made
the success possible and thanked IASC president, Ikenna Okechukwu Maduagwu for
praising his efforts.
Okorafor began by admitting his personal satisfaction,
as he declared: “Of course, I feel very proud.
“When the president says it’s the best ever, I feel
elated as the SMC chairman … but I also have to give all thanks to God.
“I am very happy that we were able to put this
together, and it happened without any major hitches. We corrected ourselves
where we needed to do corrections and so on.”
While giving particular mention about the roles played
by sports247.ng in adding excitement and flair to the leisure games, Okorafor,
who is also IASC’s director of sports, gave verbal applause to everyone who
made the success possible.
“I also want to say thanks to my team of officials,
who were totally dedicated and helped us to realise the successful completion
of this noble competition.
“I appreciate them and, in fact, I thank everyone –
including sports247.ng for the role you played in helping us add various
innovations … especially the commentators.
“They were wonderful, and this is the first time we
had such commentaries along with live streaming. It has been a huge success all
along, and I am overwhelmed,” he disclosed.
The SMC boss then confessed that he now needs time out
to relax and recharge, after the strenuous task of working round the clock
while the competition lasted, but pointed out that it is something he was used
to.
Okorafor added, “I now need to bathe, sit down, eat
good food and sleep. It has been tiring, but it is worth it and, at long last,
we are at the end.
“We knew it would be a herculean task but, with the
organisation strength that we have and where I am coming from, it became
possible.
“I am used to organising multiple international shows
and innovation days for my group.
“I just came back from Dubai last week. I had a show
there and, early next year, we are going to have one in Morocco.
“So, we have experience in organisation, and that
really helped me carry out a good job for Island All Stars.”
While also revealing how each aspect of the total
organisation was cross-checked regularly, Okorafor affirmed that it would not
have been possible without untiring support from other members of IASC.
“We normally have a checklist that we follow. When we
tick, we check list one, two and three to know if we are doing the right thing.
“It helps us to know we are on the right track; but
the most important thing is to have division of labour … because you can’t do
it all alone, or you would get crazy.
“Supervision is also key, but we knew we could do it …
and I am happy that we did it,” Okorafor stressed.
