The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
has declared Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the state’s
governorship election.
The result was announced early Sunday, August 16, by
the returning officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, after the collation of
results from all 30 local government areas in the state.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured
511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), who recorded 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate,
Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
The victory gives Adeleke another four-year term in
office, extending his tenure as governor of Osun State beyond his initial term
that began in 2022.
