Pro-democracy activist Dr. Layo Adebiyi has warned that any coalition formed against President Bola Tinubu’s second term will collapse before the 2027 election.

Speaking at a news conference in Ikeja to commemorate June 12 Democracy Day, Adebiyi described Tinubu as a political continuation of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief M.K.O. Abiola.

Adebiyi warned against attempts to undermine Tinubu’s presidency, predicting that any opposition coalition would fail.

“Any coalition formed against President Tinubu’s second term will collapse before the 2027 election,” he said.

Book on Abiola’s Life and Legacy
Adebiyi revealed he is writing a book on Abiola’s life and political journey, which aims to enlighten Nigerians on the realities of the country’s political landscape.

“I’m writing this book to warn that Tinubu represents both Awolowo and Abiola’s legacy, and must not be denied like them,” Adebiyi stated.

The activist recalled the struggles of Awolowo and Abiola, noting that despite their efforts to develop Nigeria, they were repeatedly denied opportunities to lead. “Awolowo tried to offer national development as President, but he was never allowed the opportunity. Abiola won a clear mandate and was loved by the people, but he too was stopped by unseen political forces,” Adebiyi said.

Adebiyi urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu, emphasizing that his presidency is crucial for the country’s progress. “The book reveals the realities of Nigeria’s political chess game. I had no initial plan to make it public,” Adebiyi added.

Abiola’s son, Alh. Lekan Abiola, praised the book for providing a deeper understanding of his father’s life and political journey. “The book exposed deeper forces that undermined his ambitions,” Lekan noted.

The event highlighted the significance of June 12 Democracy Day, which commemorates the annulment of the 1993 presidential election widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest election
