There was no mistaking the mood at the
Emirates Stadium as a chorus of boos rang out at half-time, directed squarely
at referee Slavko Vincic during Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League encounter with
Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners were left reeling just three minutes into
the match when Ousmane Dembélé struck early to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in
north London. The early blow unsettled Mikel Arteta’s side, who struggled to
find rhythm in a first half marred by frequent stoppages and contentious
officiating.
Slavko Vincic’s handling of the match quickly became a
point of contention among the home supporters. A series of debatable decisions
and the stop-start flow of the game frustrated fans, many of whom took to
social media to express their anger.
“Referee ruining what could have been a good game of
football,” one fan posted, while another wrote, “Referee has had an absolute
mare.”
Although some supporters chose to focus criticism on
Arsenal’s own lacklustre display, suggesting the team had been “totally
outplayed & lacking ideas in the final third,” the general sentiment
remained one of discontent with the officiating.
One post summed up the growing frustration: “This
referee is digging a humongous hole for himself.” Another noted, “The referee
has made this hard to play and watch. Going to be stop start.”
The second half promised to be an uphill battle not
only for Arsenal on the scoreboard but also in regaining momentum amid a tense
atmosphere at the Emirates.
