Arsenal endured a disappointing home loss at the
Emirates Stadium as Bournemouth claimed a 2–1 victory, dealing a blow to the
Gunners’ Premier League title ambitions.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 17th minute
through Junior Kroupi, who capitalised on a deflected ball to finish from close
range and give Bournemouth an early advantage.
Arsenal responded later in the first half, drawing
level through a penalty converted by Viktor Gyokeres after a handball decision
inside the box.
Despite making several attacking substitutions early
in the second half, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to break down Bournemouth’s
well-organised defence.
The decisive moment came in the 74th minute when Alex
Scott completed a slick attacking move, firing past goalkeeper David Raya to
restore Bournemouth’s lead.
Arsenal pushed forward in search of an equaliser but
were unable to create clear chances, eventually suffering only their second
home defeat in the league this season.
The result raises fresh concerns for Mikel Arteta and
his squad, who have now lost three consecutive domestic matches at home in all
competitions.
With six games remaining, Arsenal remain top of the
table, nine points ahead of Manchester City. However, City could significantly
reduce that gap if they secure victories in their upcoming fixtures, including
a crucial clash against the league leaders.
The Gunners had entered the match on a high following
a late win against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, but this latest
setback highlights inconsistencies that could impact their title challenge.
Just weeks ago, Arsenal were in contention for
multiple trophies, but recent defeats in domestic competitions have increased
pressure as the season approaches its decisive stage.
Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, delivered an
impressive performance, showing composure and attacking efficiency to secure a
valuable win away from home.
As the title race tightens, Arsenal will need to
quickly regain momentum to maintain their lead and avoid slipping under
pressure from their closest rivals.
