Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has described Paris
Saint-Germain as the best team in the world following his side’s heartbreaking
defeat in the UEFA Champions League final.
The Gunners fell short of European glory after losing
4-3 on penalties to PSG following a tense 1-1 draw after extra time, allowing
the French champions to successfully defend their Champions League title.
Speaking after the match, Arteta admitted he was
devastated by the outcome but praised PSG’s quality and dominance throughout
the contest.
The Spanish coach said the French side's ability on
the ball and their individual brilliance made them the strongest team he has
seen, noting that they consistently forced opponents into uncomfortable
situations.
Arteta reserved special praise for PSG manager Luis
Enrique and his players, acknowledging the level of football they have
displayed throughout the season.
Arsenal took an early lead through Kai Havertz, but
Ousmane Dembélé's second-half penalty brought PSG level before the match
eventually went to a penalty shootout.
Despite showing tremendous defensive resilience and
determination, Arsenal spent much of the game under pressure, recording less
than 25 percent possession as PSG controlled large portions of the final.
Arteta also expressed disappointment over a penalty
appeal involving winger Noni Madueke that was not awarded while the score
remained level. However, he accepted that Arsenal must continue improving if
they are to become champions of Europe.
The defeat marked Arsenal’s second appearance in a
Champions League final and extended their wait for a first title in the
competition. Their previous final ended in defeat to Barcelona two decades ago.
Since taking charge nearly seven years ago, Arteta has
overseen a remarkable transformation at Arsenal, guiding the club back among
Europe’s elite and ending a 22-year wait for a Premier League title this
season.
Despite those achievements, the Arsenal boss insisted
that further progress is required to compete consistently at the highest level.
According to Arteta, the team must use the
disappointment of the final as motivation for future success, stressing that
standards across European football continue to rise every season.
He emphasized that Arsenal must embrace the pain of
defeat, learn from the experience, and use it as fuel to reach an even higher
level as they continue their pursuit of Champions League glory.
