No fewer than 30 people are feared dead following a
terrorist attack in Dutsin Dan Ajiya Village, located in Anka Local Government
Area, on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Residents reported that armed attackers, riding
motorbikes, surrounded the village and blocked all exits before launching hours
of indiscriminate gunfire. Homes were attacked, and many villagers were
abducted and taken into the forest.
“The bandits, after surrounding us, started shooting
sporadically and attacked houses non-stop for hours. They killed about 30
people and abducted many others, taking them into the forest,” a local resident
said.
By Friday morning, several residents were still
missing in addition to those abducted during the raid.
The attack comes a day after the Minister of Defence,
Major General Christopher Musa, visited Zamfara to launch 25 armoured vehicles,
surveillance equipment, and drones procured by Governor Dauda Lawal,
underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the state.
Authorities are yet to release an official casualty
figure, and security forces are reportedly mobilizing to pursue the attackers.
