Nigerian Youth Coalition, NYC has slammed Bauchi State
Governor, Bala Mohammed, for distorting national issues to suit his agenda of
attempting to precipitate an ethno-sectarian crisis that he hopes to use to
overshadow his dismal performance as a governor and evade answering to the
people of Bauchi state.
Reacting to Bala Mohammed’s recent attacks on the
Federal Government, including one in which he said the North may be forced to
“show its true colour” and that the “North will deal with the President”, NYC,
in a statement issued in Abuja at the weekend, accused Mohammed of
impersonating as the voice of the North when he is poorly suited for the role
and has no mandate to run such errands.
The statement signed by Lawan Mohammed noted that
“Mohammed’s ongoing assault on the Presidency is a sad reminder that the Bauchi
State Governor is yet to let go of his desire to arm his ethnic group with AK47
assault rifles to wage war against the rest of Nigeria and that his jaundiced
criticism of President Bola Tinubu is his own poor version or reviving this
sinister agenda on an intellectual front.
“It is noteworthy that the Presidency has successfully
used facts and data to challenge this ethnic irridentist, who, despite
receiving huge allocations, would be leaving the state under his care worse
than he met it. One would have expected that a man posturing to interrogate
federal policies on behalf of the North would have robustly defended his
position concerning his performance as a governor.
“But Bala Mohammed’s response to the issues raised by
the Presidency is neither here nor there. His is a needless campaign of an
ailing governor who has erred. His continued outburst is unfortunate void of
rationality or veracity, which further validates our assertion that the Bauchi
Governor is desperate to provoke an ethno-sectarian crisis for which he must
have armed his foot soldiers with AK47 rifles.
“The response by Bala is an attempt to grasp at
straws. His unusual and toxic bravado will not serve him or his promoters
well.Bala’s political Agenda is well known and clearly moribund.
How can any human claim that the declaration by a
Governor to teach the President a lesson is a constructive engagement?! They
are not worth engaging”. The group said.
“The attempt by certain elements at regrouping against
the President is obvious, but this is in the bid to trigger a reaction that
will irk the entire north against the administration. NYC is urging President
Tinubu’s administration to never take the bait but should instead continue to
provide actionable information that exposes public officeholders who failed
their constituents and are now trying to distract people from asking questions
by skewing public discourse of people-oriented federal government policies.
“This is why Bala Mohammed is stuck with the deluded
perception of his North as a place where people can’t even do basic farming
properly and productively to feed the nation and still walk livestock to
market, whereas this same North has surplus young entrepreneurs who see
boundless possibilities opening up for their agro-businesses because of
President Tinubu’s economic reforms
“We urge the President not to be distracted by Bala
Mohammed’s low-resolution cyclical conversation that solves no problem. The
Presidency should ask Bala Mohammed and his co-traveller to explore the
institutional procedures and present their memoranda at the public hearing.
“For Bala Mohammed, all we can say at this point is
that he should stop blabbing and concentrate on using what is left of his
tenure to repair the damage he has done in Bauchi State so that the state can
recover to the point of tapping into and benefitting from the contemporary
economic environment,” the statement said.
