Armed bandits have reportedly invaded several
communities in Katsina State, abducting an unspecified number of residents
during coordinated night attacks.
The attacks occurred on Monday night, when heavily
armed assailants stormed the affected communities and operated for several
hours, unleashing violence and chaos.
Security sources said the attackers initially struck
Unguwar Alhaji Barau before moving on to Gidan Dan Mai-gizo and Gidan Hazo
communities, all located in Na’alma Ward of Malumfashi Local Government Area.
As of the time of filing this report, security
agencies are yet to issue an official statement, and the exact number of those
abducted or injured remains unclear.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Katsina State
Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, said he was not yet aware of the incident but
promised to verify the information and provide an update.
“Please let me check, because I’m just hearing about
the attack from you now. I will get back to you,” Sadiq said.
Malumfashi Local Government Area is one of the
flashpoints of banditry in Katsina State, despite recent peace agreements
between local authorities and armed groups operating in the area.
The latest attacks come amid renewed security concerns
following a deadly mosque attack in the same local government area on August
19, 2025, when gunmen opened fire on worshippers at Unguwar Mantau community,
killing at least 32 people.
Residents of the affected communities are said to be
living in fear as uncertainty continues over the fate of those abducted.
