As the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) gets to
the finals stages, with three more games to go, chairman of the league board,
Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, has assured of a hitch free conclusion to the
season.
Although Remo Stars have already clinched the league
title, the NPFL boss said he and his colleagues are aware of the fight for
continental tickets and survival from demotion, hence they will be on their
toes till the last day of the season.
Honourable Elegbeleye , a former Deputy
Chairman, House Committee on Sports of the House of Representatives, hinted
that the board will be at alert to guard against any form of antics by teams
battling to survive the drop and those eyeing continental ticket.
"At this stage, I will say clubs are now in
desperate mood to escape relegation, some are in desperate mood to qualify for
continental football.
We know a lot of antics would be deployed by clubs to
probably derail matches to favour them, but my message to the clubs and to
Nigerians, is that we are up to the task.
"t is not business as usual anymore, what ever
they bring, we know how to block all loopholes now. It is certain we will run a
very seamless and very smooth league till the last day (Matchday 38)",
said the politician cum sports administrator.
The former Director General, National Sports
Commission (NSC), expressed appreciation to Nigerians for appreciating what the
board is doing and for believing in them.
"I want to tell Nigerians that our best is yet to
come, we are just growing and we will continue to improve on every opportunity
until we give Nigeria the best league in Africa".
