Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri,
has announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
but declined to reveal which political party he would be joining.
Governor Diri made the announcement on Wednesday
during a meeting at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa State
Government House in Yenagoa.
His defection was backed by 23 members of the State
House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, signalling a significant
political realignment in the state.
The development comes barely 24 hours after Enugu
State Governor Peter Mbah also defected from the PDP to the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting a widening trend of defections
among opposition governors.
