The Algeria Football Federation has reversed its
earlier decision to withdraw from the 2024 Championship of African Nations
(CHAN), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Initially, Algeria had cited calendar congestion as
the reason for their pullout.
However, the North African nation has now confirmed it
will participate in the tournament's playoffs, where they will face off against
Comoros, Egypt, Gambia, Malawi, and South Africa.
In a further shift, the Algerian Football Federation
has opted to send their senior national team, rather than the U-23 squad they
had originally planned to field.
The national 'A' team, led by Abdelmadjid Bougherra,
will begin their preparations during the FIFA window from March 17 to 25, 2025.
This will serve as a warm-up for both CHAN 2025,
scheduled for August 2–30, and the Arab Cup, which is set for December 2025.
The exact dates for the CHAN playoffs are yet to be confirmed.
