Super Eagles B coach, Daniel Ogunmodede bears his mind
on managing the pressure and expectations ahead of CHAN 2024 Qualifiers against
Ghana on Sunday, Sports247 reports
The Super Eagles B will face their Ghana counterparts,
the Black Galaxies will face Nigeria on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium in
the first leg of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
In a chat with CAF Media, Daniel Ogunmodede revealed
that the team will take the pressures and expectations that come with the
‘Jollof Derby” to propel the Super Eagles B to victory.
Matches between Nigeria and Ghana always come with
high expectations from the fans of the team as the two West African countries
more than pride and bragging right to the games.
Significantly Ghana stopped Nigeria from attending the
2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as the home based professional also stopped Super
Eagles B from playing in the 2022 edition of the CHAN.
Ogunmodede said: “Managing the pressure and
expectations for such an important match against our big rivals is very
important,”
“We focus on staying mentally strong, sticking to our
game plan, and helping the players feel confident to play their best. We want
them to see the rivalry as motivation, not something to worry about, ”
Ogunmodede explained.
The Remo Stars coach speaks further on the bigger
picture of returning the Super Eagles B to the competition which is solely
played by professional players based in the native country.
“It would be a big achievement. It would help show off
our local talent, improve the profile of the Nigerian domestic league, and
inspire future football stars,” he said.
Nigeria will face Ghana on Sunday in the first leg at
the Accra Sports Stadium, while Nigeria will host Ghana in the return leg at
the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, a week later .
The aggregate winner over the two legs will pick one
of the slots allotted to the WAFU B region at the championship.
