A congressional investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s network of associates has reignited controversy after Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released a 2003 birthday letter allegedly sent by Donald Trump to the late financier.

The letter — typewritten inside the sketch of a nude woman — was among dozens compiled by Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell in a “birthday book” for his 50th birthday. It features a short dialogue between “Donald” and “Jeffrey,” ending with the phrase: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.” Trump’s signature is placed on the nude sketch in a suggestive position.

The White House has strongly denied the authenticity of the letter. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said:

“It’s very clear President Donald Trump did not draw this picture and he did not sign it. His legal team will continue to aggressively pursue litigation.”

The document surfaced after the Wall Street Journal first reported its existence in July, sparking a $10 billion defamation suit from Trump.

Committee Fallout

The Oversight Committee, which subpoenaed Epstein’s estate for the book and related documents, is divided over the release. Chairman James Comer (R) accused Democrats of “cherry-picking documents and politicizing information,” while Democrats argue that the material shows “inconsistencies” in Trump’s public denials of a relationship with Epstein.

The controversy comes as the panel intensifies its investigation into how Epstein’s case was handled, including his 2019 death in a New York jail, which authorities officially ruled a suicide.

Wider Implications

The release also coincides with continued pressure from both Democrats and some Republicans to declassify all legal files related to Epstein, amid suspicions that prominent figures were shielded from scrutiny.

Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, now serving a 20-year prison term, previously told Justice Department investigators that Trump was “friendly with Epstein but never inappropriate with anybody.”

The debate underscores how Epstein’s shadow continues to haunt US politics, cutting across partisan lines while fueling conspiracy theories among Trump’s base, many of whom believe elite networks were protected.
