Coventry City have confirmed the permanent signing of
Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka from Brentford after the completion of his
loan spell at the CBS Arena.
Although the Championship winners did not disclose the
transfer fee, the move became official following the opening of the summer
transfer window.
Onyeka initially joined the Sky Blues on loan in
January and quickly became an influential figure in Frank Lampard's squad,
helping the club secure the Sky Bet Championship title and promotion to the
Premier League.
The Super Eagles midfielder made 14 league appearances
during the second half of the campaign and scored a vital goal in Coventry's
victory over Derby County in April.
The 28-year-old also arrives with considerable
top-flight experience, having featured in 75 Premier League matches during his
time with Brentford.
Speaking after completing the permanent switch, Onyeka
expressed his delight at continuing his journey with Coventry City.
"I'm really excited for the new season with
Coventry," he told the club's official media channels.
"When I joined the club last season, my
objectives were to help the team win the Championship and earn promotion to the
Premier League. I'm delighted that we've achieved that and that I'm now
officially a Coventry City player in the Premier League."
The midfielder pledged to give his all for the club,
promising to bring commitment, determination and experience to the squad.
"I'll fight for every ball, support my teammates
and do everything I can to help the team," he said.
Looking ahead, Onyeka said his immediate ambition is
to help Coventry establish themselves in the Premier League and finish as high
up the table as possible during the upcoming season.
