Former Real Madrid defender David Alaba has reached a
verbal agreement to join Italian Serie A club Udinese as a free agent.
The Austria international became available after
leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season following the expiration of his
contract.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Alaba
has agreed terms with Udinese, describing the move as a major signing for the
Italian club.
Romano said the agreement is still subject to the
completion of formal procedures before the transfer can be officially
confirmed.
Alaba, 34, is expected to bring considerable
experience to Udinese after a distinguished career that included spells with
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
The defender, who has Nigerian heritage, could also
become a teammate of Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye at the Serie A club.
Okoye joined Udinese in August 2023 after signing a
four-year contract with the Italian side.
If the transfer is completed, Alaba's move to Udinese
will mark his return to Serie A, where he previously spent time during the
early stages of his professional career.
