Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has
convened an emergency meeting with the country’s Service Chiefs following a
series of recent attacks on military bases in the North-East.
The high-level meeting took place on Wednesday, March
11, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
Among those in attendance are the Chief of Defence
Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air
Staff, Sunday Aneke; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abass. Representatives
from the National Intelligence Agency were also present.
According to reports by Daily Trust, at least three
Commanding Officers holding the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel were recently killed
during terrorist attacks in Borno State.
In addition to the senior officers, several soldiers
were also reportedly killed in the assaults, while hundreds of civilians
abducted during the attacks remain in captivity.
Speaking briefly before the meeting went into a
closed-door session, Musa said the security chiefs had agreed to reassess and
strengthen military strategies to better confront terrorist groups in the
region.
He acknowledged that the armed forces had suffered
casualties but insisted that the losses were heavier on the side of the
terrorists.
“We know we have recorded some casualties, but it is
more on the side of terrorists,” the retired four-star general said while
addressing reporters before the meeting continued privately.
