Governor Francis Nwifuru has directed security
agencies to urgently investigate the killing of a traditional ruler in Ebonyi
State, describing the act as brutal and unacceptable.
In a statement issued through his Chief Press
Secretary, Monday Uzor, the governor condemned the murder of Josephat Ikegwu,
the Ezeogo of Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area.
Governor Condemns ‘Barbaric’ Act
Nwifuru described the killing as not only an attack on
a respected traditional institution but also a threat to the peace and unity of
the state.
He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and
extended condolences to the family of the late monarch, the Ishinkwo community,
and residents of Onicha LGA.
Security Agencies Mobilised
The governor confirmed that security forces have been
deployed and instructed to track down those responsible for the crime.
He assured residents that the government is taking
decisive steps to address ongoing security concerns and restore stability
across the state.
No Protection for Offenders
Nwifuru emphasized that no individual or group would
be shielded from justice, regardless of their status or connections.
He reiterated that the protection of human life
remains a top priority for his administration.
Call for Unity and Vigilance
The governor also called on traditional leaders,
community members, youth groups, and security agencies to work together in
maintaining peace and preventing further violence.
He stressed that sustainable development in the state
depends on a secure and stable environment.
