As the ongoing IN goEC Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise unfolds in Edo State, I, Oberaifo Udoh, the African Action Congress (AAC) gubernatorial candidate, urge all Edolites to go out en masse to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), revalidate their existing ones, and for those outside Edo State, transfer their voter cards back home. This is a pivotal step towards ensuring your voice is heard in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Firstly, the heavy rains of friday 24th May 2024 have truly affected alot of people and families, destroying their properties and source of livelihood and I truly sympathise with them . Our government is here to give them hope and succor if we are voted into power come 21st september 2024.The least we can do at this point is to ensure they are not disenfranchise so atleast they can exercise their rights to vote and choose the right leaders who will put an end to all these sufferings.
Having monitored the registration process at Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha, where INEC has temporarily set up the state head office due to the recent flood disaster, I can report mixed progress. The process, which began on Monday, 27th May, has been commendable, albeit not without its challenges. The move to Ikpoba-Okha was necessitated by the flood, which unfortunately damaged some of INEC's equipment, previously housed at their main office.
Despite these setbacks, a relatively large turnout of new registrants and those seeking to transfer their registration or collect PVCs has been observed. However, we are mindful of the hitches and the inconvenience caused to residents in flood-affected areas who may find it difficult to reach Ikpoba Hill. Therefore, I urge INEC to consider extending the CVR dates or scheduling another date for those wards impacted by the relocation, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
Disturbingly, violence has erupted in some areas across the state, including Oredo Ward 4 and Owan West Local Government Areas, which are significant given their political relevance. The violence in Ward 4 Oredo, the state governor's ward, and Owan West, the home of the State House of Assembly Speaker, indicates a troubling preparation for a violence-filled election day by the ruling party.
We must resist such tactics and strive for credible leadership that prioritizes the well-being of our state. This election presents an opportunity to elect a leader who will end the cycle of violence, address our infrastructure deficiencies, improve education, implement policies for economic growth and empowerment, enhance security, and ensure 24/7 electricity. My commitment is to make Edo State a viable and prosperous region, fulfilling the dreams of generations to come.
Therefore, I implore every eligible voter in Edo State to participate in the CVR exercise. Your vote is your voice, and together, we can achieve the Edo of our dreams. Let us ensure that our state remains a beacon of democracy, where every vote counts, and every voice is heard.
Join us in this crucial journey towards a better Edo State. Register, revalidate, transfer, and vote for a future that puts humanity first.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to a brighter future for Edo State.
Sincerely,
Dr. Oberaifo Udoh
AAC Gubernatorial Candidate
