The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has
placed Godwin Obaseki
Former Governor of Edo State, on its watch list, according to reports.
The anti-graft agency has also commenced an
investigation into government transactions, including contracts awarded during
his tenure as the governor of the State.
Obaseki had anticipated his arrest earlier when he
told reporters that the EFCC was planning to arrest him soon after leaving
office.
The EFCC travel restriction and watch list comes at a
time, when Obaseki’s successor, Monday Okpebholo, has put a 14-member State
Assets Verification Committee to investigate his tenure.
Also, the anti graft agency had earlier on November 2
arrested the Accountant, Mr Julius Anelu with four others, over allegation of
spurious hurried withdrawal of huge sums from the state treasury.
All these comes even as Obaseki had on November 8 said
he was not scared of a probe by the EFCC and had said he would be willing to
submit himself to the anti-graft agency to give an account of his tenure.
