Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine
Eguavoen has expressed confidence that several players from the CHAN Eagles
could break into the Super Eagles.
Eguavoen said he believes that qualification to the
delayed 2024 CHAN in February will afford players from the domestic league a
chance to show what they are capable of at international level for them to
subsequently stake a claim for places in the Super Eagles.
On Saturday in Uyo, the CHAN Eagles take on Ghana in
the second leg of a final playoff for the 2024 CHAN after both teams played out
a scoreless draw in Accra at the weekend.
“Qualification for the CHAN is an opportunity to
showcase our league, it is also an opportunity for some of the boys to break
into the senior national team,” Eguavoen said in an interview on Kennis
FM Radio
“We’re looking for that opportunity to give them to
break into the senior national team, but that chance hasn’t come because the
games have been so close that the boys in Europe come in just three, two days
before a game and also these games are delicate and we can’t take risks.
“With the CHAN, they can prove what they can do, then
they have an opportunity to play for the senior team, maybe four, five of them.
“I am sure they won’t toy with this big opportunity.”
