With the start of the delayed CAF Women’s Africa Cup
of Nations (WAFCON) six months away, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has assured that the senior women’s
football team, Super Falcons will be given adequate preparations to compete for
the ultimate trophy in July in Morocco this time around.
The Africa’s biggest women’s football competition
which did not hold last year due to the tight football calendar of CAF will now
take place from July 5 to 26, 2025 in Morocco where Nigeria finished outside
medals bracket in the last edition.
But the NFF boss has now promised that Super Falcons
will be prepared in the best way possible in order to reclaim the African title
Nigeria has won 11 times in the past including winning back to back in 2016 and
2018 respectively.
Speaking exclusively to Prompt News on Thursday, Gusua
disclosed that the NFF will ensure that Super Falcons are well prepared for the
upcoming WAFCON in Morocco, pointing out that the team will be given adequate
preparations ahead of the competition.
Said he: “I just want to assure everyone that we (NFF)
will make sure we give the team adequate preparations they deserve within the
available resources we have, we are not going to take any chances”.
Meanwhile, the President has also revealed that the
NFF Executive Committee will ensure that Super Falcons utilise the 2025 FIFA
Women’s International Match Windows to prepare adequately for the WAFCON final
in Morocco in July.
“It is our desire in the NFF to see the Super Falcons
win the WAFCON trophy again. We will make sure that the team is adequately
prepared for the challenge ahead. We are aware of the 2025 FIFA International
Women’s Match Calendar. We will utilise the International Match Windows.
“For this reason, NFF will organise international
friendly matches for the team within the available resources available to us to
test the players’ readiness for the task ahead. We ‘ll support the team to do
well in Morocco.
Prompt News reports that there are eight windows for
FIFA international friendly matches before WAFCON final in Morocco starting
from February to June, 2025 on the eve of WAFCON kick off.
A closer look at the 2025 FIFA Women’s International
Match Calendar showed that three international friendlies will be played from
February 17 to 26, 2025; two matches from March 31 to April 8, 2025 and also,
two matches from May 26 to June 3, 2025, exactly a month to WAFCON kick off in
Morocco.
Significantly, the delayed WAFCON billed for Morocco
this year has also fallen within the 2025 FIFA Women’s International Match
Calendar. It will hold from July 5 to 26, 2025.
This is the same period UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 will
hold from July 2 to 27 in Switzerland while 2025 Copa América Femenina takes
place from July 12 to August 2, 2025 in Ecuador respectively.
