The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)
would donate 50 additional operational vehicles to security agencies, to
enhance their operations and keep the Territory safe.
The Minister, Nyesom Wike, revealed this during a live
media parley in his office, Wednesday.
The Minister however, said that the Federal Capital
Territory was much secure compared to the period preceding his assumption of
office.
While commending the security agencies for working day
and night to keep the FCT secure, Wike disclosed that the vehicles would assist
the operatives in putting them on top of their game by effectively tackling
insecurity, and checking activities of scavengers and beggars, to ensure that
they do not only constitute nuisance and also serve as informants thereby
constituting security threats in the FCT.
The Minister disagreed that poverty was the reason
beggars were, hitherto, all over the streets of Abuja.
His words: “I disagree with you that poverty is
responsible, professional begging is what is happening. We have security
threats and you give excuses for them. Some of the beggars and scavengers you
see on the streets are not only scavenging but informants too. The Committee is
now working day and night and they will be encouraged.”
The Minister further disclosed that next week, the
Administration will distribute 50 additional vehicles to security agencies to
provide comfort for the Abuja residents; stressing that giving them necessary
support would ensure better results.
Wike expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for
giving him the opportunity to serve; pledging that his administration would
change Abuja and make it a place Nigerians would be proud of.
“Any day I go to the rural area, I feel very happy.
Yesterday I was in Saburi community, look at the happiness on the faces of the
people”, he said.
