FIFA, CAF Visit: Stakeholders Reflect on Nigeria Football Crisis, Next Steps

A delegation from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) visited Nigeria earlier this week following an invitation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to assess some of the pressing challenges confronting football administration in the country.

During their visit, the delegation held meetings with various stakeholders and groups within Nigerian football, with discussions reportedly focused on issues requiring the attention and possible intervention of the international football governing bodies.

However, following the departure of the FIFA and CAF officials, there has yet to be a comprehensive account of the issues discussed across the different meetings or the possible outcomes of the engagements.

Against this backdrop, former Nigeria international and football administrator Olusegun Odegbami is set to examine the visit and its implications on his programme, 90 Minutes with Mathematical, on Saturday morning.

Odegbami said the programme would feature discussions with some of the stakeholders who participated in the meetings with the FIFA and CAF delegation, with the aim of providing insight into what transpired and what Nigerians could expect going forward.

Among the key questions to be examined are what happened during the various sessions, the major issues raised, the impression created by the FIFA and CAF delegation, and whether their responses during the meetings offered any reassurance about the future of football administration in Nigeria.

The programme will also consider what steps could follow the delegation’s visit and whether the engagements could lead to changes in the administration of Nigerian football.

The discussion will feature MGP Maxwell Lawrence and will be broadcast on Eagle7 Sports Radio 103.7 FM, Abeokuta, from 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
