As Nigeria’s largest grassroots soccer spectacle, the
Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, christened Prosperity Cup enters its
most crucial stages, a number of seasoned Nigerian soccer technocrats have
arrived at the Bayelsa State Capital, Yenagoa in search of raw talents.
The coaches, who are expected to be in Bayelsa State
for the rest of the soccer fiesta, include the immediate past head coach of the
senior National Team of Nigeria,the Super Eagles and Rivers United handler,
Finidi George, ex-international and former coach of Plateau United and Akwa
United, Kennedy Boboye and former Bayelsa United, Insurance of Benin coach,
Monday Odigie, among others.
While in the State, the Coaches will use the
opportunity to scout for talents to beef up their various clubs and potential
outfits for the next football season.
Speaking to newsmen on the presence of the seasoned
technocrats, the Director General of the Central Organizing Committee of the
Prosperity Cup 2025, Mr. Ono Akpe commended the coaches for identifying with
the tournament and also finding it as a worthy hunting ground for potential
star players.
He noted with satisfaction that, the Prosperity Cup
Tournament has grown in status and recognition that, it now serves as a
veritable scouting avenue for local and international interests in the game.
Mr. Akpe also gave plaudits to the Bayelsa State
Governor, Senator Douye Diri, his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for
their unwaivering and special interest in the discovery and grooming of young
talents in the various sporting disciplines and especially football across the
state.
He described the steady progress the Prosperity Cup
has made over the years as a manifestation of the massive support it was
getting from the government and major stakeholders within the state and beyond.
The Director General also expressed satisfaction with
the growing interest in the competition and the potential to attract greater
interest, because of the abundant collection of talents.
Meanwhile, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football spectacle,
the largest grassroots football showpiece will be coming to its climax on
Saturday, 31st of May, 2025.
