Sources close to Midwest Herald have revealed that the
outgoing governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki may have returned back to
Nigeria yesterday, amidst speculation that he had absconded from the dragnet of
the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
One
of the governor’s aide confided in our reporter that Obaseki was prevailed upon
by other Peoples Democratic Governors to return and provide leadership for the
party in the state at this “critical period in the tribunal.”
Obaseki
reportedly arrived Lagos yesterday evening from Italy, “amidst serious pressure
from his political sons, Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie.” One of the sources
claimed.
The
PDP governorship candidate and his running mate who recently lost the elections
to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo,
have allegedly been complaining to major stakeholder in PDP at the National
level that, Mr. Obaseki had abandoned them in their trying times.
A
privileged source volunteered that in a PDP Governors Forum meeting held via
zoom last Wednesday night, Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman governors forum and
other PDP governors had asked Gov. Obaseki to return to Nigeria immediately to
help the candidates with INEC and tribunal processes.
It
has been alleged also, that Obaseki has mobilized some key members of Asue and
Ogie campaign team to recruit protesters to the Benin City office of the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for daily protests.
