Veteran comedian and Nollywood actor Okey Bakassi, born Okechukwu Onyegbule, has been named the Eze-elect of Umuihuocha Obohia Autonomous Community in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Imo State. The entertainer, whose career spans over 30 years, will bear the traditional title Eze Okwe II, succeeding his forebears as the custodian of culture and values in his hometown.

Chosen by the community's traditional council for his integrity and deep roots, Okey Bakassi’s coronation will mark a symbolic return to his origins. The event is expected to attract dignitaries, Nollywood stars, and well-wishers nationwide.

From engineering to comedy, and now royalty, his transition reflects a growing trend in Nigeria where accomplished professionals take on traditional roles to blend modern leadership with ancestral heritage. As monarch, Okey Bakassi is expected to promote unity, mediate local affairs, and drive cultural and community development.
