Veteran comedian and Nollywood actor Okey Bakassi,
born Okechukwu Onyegbule, has been named the Eze-elect of Umuihuocha Obohia
Autonomous Community in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Imo State. The entertainer, whose
career spans over 30 years, will bear the traditional title Eze Okwe II,
succeeding his forebears as the custodian of culture and values in his
hometown.
Chosen by the community's traditional council for his
integrity and deep roots, Okey Bakassi’s coronation will mark a symbolic return
to his origins. The event is expected to attract dignitaries, Nollywood stars,
and well-wishers nationwide.
From engineering to comedy, and now royalty, his
transition reflects a growing trend in Nigeria where accomplished professionals
take on traditional roles to blend modern leadership with ancestral heritage.
As monarch, Okey Bakassi is expected to promote unity, mediate local affairs,
and drive cultural and community development.
