Governor Siminalayi Fubara has advised families to
avoid disputes over inheritance, warning that such conflicts can lead to
division and instability.
The governor gave this counsel during a funeral
service held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in honour of the late monarch of
Opobo Kingdom, King Jaja.
Addressing the children and relatives of the deceased,
Fubara urged them to prioritise peace and unity rather than allowing material
possessions to create discord within the family. He stressed that inheritance
should not be mistaken for personal success.
According to him, while assets can be passed down,
true success must be achieved through individual effort and determination. He
warned that misunderstanding this distinction often leads to unnecessary
disputes that weaken family bonds.
The governor also noted that conflicts over inherited
wealth can diminish both the value of assets and the legacy of the deceased,
encouraging the family to preserve harmony in honour of the late king.
Paying tribute, Fubara described King Jaja as a
dignified and composed leader whose reign brought stability, growth, and
recognition to the Opobo Kingdom. He added that the monarch, who passed away at
the age of 83, lived a fulfilled life marked by notable achievements.
He highlighted that during the king’s reign, the
kingdom gained prominence, producing key political figures, including a deputy
governor in 1999 and a sitting governor.
Fubara encouraged mourners to view the occasion not
only as a moment of grief but also as a celebration of a life well lived,
urging them to continue building on the legacy left behind.
He also advised the Amanyanabo-elect, Charles
Mac-Pepple Jaja, to focus on leading with wisdom and vision, rather than
attempting to replicate the exact path of his predecessor.
In his sermon, Emmanuel Jaja, Bishop of the Diocese of
Niger Delta, reminded the congregation about the temporary nature of life.
Drawing from the book of Revelation, he urged attendees to avoid pride and
excessive pursuit of wealth, emphasizing that eternal life comes through faith
in God.
The service brought together community members,
leaders, and well-wishers, as tributes continued to celebrate the legacy of the
late monarch.
