The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has
called on South-West governors to prioritize security and establish robust
measures to safeguard the region.
This appeal follows a warning from Oyo State Governor,
Seyi Makinde, regarding the influx of bandits fleeing military operations in
the North-West.
Adams, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant
on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, emphasized the urgency of Governor Makinde’s
concerns, describing them as a critical wake-up call.
He stressed that ignoring the warning could exacerbate
the already precarious security situation in the South-West.
“The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde is a call
to action for all South-West governors. I raised a similar concern last year,
but little was done, and the insecurity has only worsened,” Adams lamented.
He noted that his security group, the South-West
Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG), along with other organizations under his
leadership, has been working tirelessly to ensure safety in the region.
Adams urged the governors to act swiftly, implementing
proactive strategies to prevent the South-West from becoming a stronghold for
bandits and kidnappers.
“It is imperative for the governors to address the
security challenges in their respective states without delay. We cannot afford
to allow Yorubaland to become a haven for criminal activities,” he warned.
Reiterating his commitment to regional security, Adams
assured that his group would continue resisting any attempts to destabilize the
South-West.
He encouraged collective vigilance and decisive action
to protect the lives and properties of the people.
