Government

Which are the possibilities that private
entity like yours can compliment government funding in sports?
Sports
remains the most successful tool
of
unity in Nigeria and the tested and
trusted
glue that holds and binds Nigeria
and
Nigerians together so much so, that
all
manners of fear, insecurities and
terrorism
is never recorded when sports
take
the centre stage because in that
moment,
all we see is the green and
white
and everyone deeply yearns for the
glory
of Nigeria which ensures true
peace
and stability even though it is
usually
fleeting as all vices resume once
the
sports end. This is why the
Government
should focus on this proven
vehicle of unity and peace in the Nation,
fully
support it and thus, bring back our
patriotism
both with and without sports
To which extent has government
policies encourage investors to
collaborate with private investors?
The
introduction of tax waivers and
other
incentives on sponsorship of
sporting
activities by the Government is
a
fabulous initiative, which is enough to
make investors come in and help grow
our
sports even though some like Thanos
Charity
Foundation, an NGO which
looks
to contribute positively to Nigeria,
actively
engage youths, promote and
protect
the girl child whilst fostering
peace
and unity through education and
sports,
invest in sports not for waivers or
incentives
but purely put the desire to help
make
Nigeria better and above all, foster
peace and
unity throughout the nation
which
is why all our activities including
Anambra Marathon, are open events and
without
segregation or discriminate
against
any gender with equal
opportunity with us.
What is the bottleneck which could
be reviewed by both diverse that be
sorted to compliment the aspirations?
Some
bottlenecks include: transparency,
dedication,
nepotism, discrimination,
lack
of accountability and lack of
patriotism
How can sports create opportunities
to the teaming sports community
including your numerous programmes
in the eastern part of Nigeria?
NPFL
represents just a fraction of the
sporting
industry in Nigeria which boasts
of a wide array of opportunities both on
the
secular and traditional fronts
therefore,
the sports industry is the most
untapped
and underdeveloped sector of
the
Nigerian economy which means that
it
has the most potentials in attracting
investors
and helping to stabilise the
economy and in turn the unity and peace
of
Nigeria.
How effective has this impacted?
Of course.
We have seen private clubs
blossom
and boom in the nation which is
proof
that it is 100% possible.
Any hope for sports investment in the
same manner that the GTI has
invested public funds into the Nigeria
Professional football league (NPFL) at
a time hope was lost been
indebtedness to the league structures?
Very easy.
We must fight and eliminate
the following: lack of transparency, lack
of
dedication, nepotism, discrimination,
lack
of patriotism and lack of
accountability.
How long
can sports survive outside
government funding?
Proper
auditing, implementation of
due
process always, enforcement of
the
law, removal of immunity from
officials as seen in the NFF which
always
claim to be independent of the
Nation which is treasonous in itself as
nobody
is above the law let alone a
body
whose legitimacy relies on the
Federal Republic of Nigeria and even
reflects
in its name.
What are the possible ways to win the
confidence of the marketing agent’s in
the area of sourcing for funds to run
annual programmes of the National
federations?
I have no
comment on such issues as I
am
not an economist not knowledgeable
in
such issues definitely get the right
people in and flush out the old heads
who
have been in the system for decades
with
nothing to show for it.
Again,
it is a question of putting square
pegs
in square holes which is not the case
in
Nigeria and we tend to use Sports as a
compensation
package often to those who
have
no idea about the enormity of the
value
of what they sit on which explains
why
year on year, sporting facilities
which the Nation spent billions to acquire
fall
into dilapidation owing to lack of use
and
maintenance.
Are there possibility to navigate out of
funds
misappropriation allegations
around sport that will give confidence
to the prosperous sponsors?
Yes.
Government should focus more on sports.
