In true style of saving the best for last, Team Akwa
Ibom ended the 22nd National Sports Festival on a high note, winning ten medals
in Kickboxing to bring their total to 48 medals.
Before the final day of the Festival, Team Akwa Ibom
had already collected 37 medals. Their medal count rose to 38 after the Men’s
4x400m relay team clinched a silver. But it was the Kickboxing team, led by
Coach Enoch Abia, that truly made the difference on the last day.
According to the Team Akwa Ibom media Unit, the
State’s Kickboxers delivered a powerful performance, winning medals across
various weight classes in both the men’s and women’s categories. This
impressive haul is the highest medal return from any of the 23 sports Akwa Ibom
competed in during the Festival.
Young Victory Bassey confirmed his rising status in
Nigerian Kickboxing by winning his third straight gold medal at the National
Sports Festival. Juliet Ukah also stood tall, claiming her fourth National
Sports Festival gold medal, showing she remains a top name in the sport.

This strong finish sees Akwa Ibom improve on their
Kickboxing record from the 2022 Festival, where they won nine medals in total.
With this “harvest of medals”, Team Akwa Ibom now
hopes to secure a top-nine spot when the final medals table of the 22nd
National Sports Festival is officially released.
Meanwhile, the 22nd National Sports Festival has ended
in Ogun State with the closing ceremony held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the
MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
Team
Delta State have emerged champions of the 22nd National Sports
