The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reassured Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and maintaining national peace, amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

According to a statement from ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, while the country remains stable, the Force has intensified proactive, intelligence-led policing measures nationwide.

The Ag. IGP has directed all Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory—particularly in the North West, North East, and North Central zones—to:

  • Heighten surveillance and intelligence gathering.
  • Strengthen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders.
  • Enhance visible policing around worship centres and public spaces.
  • Swiftly respond to any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit international tensions to incite unrest or sectarian conflict.

The statement emphasized that Nigeria will not be used as a theatre for foreign conflicts and warned that attempts to import external ideological or religious disputes will be met with the full force of the law.

IGP Disu also urged community leaders to continue promoting peace and called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while promptly reporting suspicious activity to the nearest police formation. The Force remains fully prepared to safeguard every Nigerian and maintain national security at all times.
