A 24-year-old Ghanaian man has been rescued from a human trafficking ring in Ogun State, Nigeria, following a joint operation by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and INTERPOL. The coordinated mission also led to the arrest of five suspects linked to the cross-border syndicate.

According to JustLiberation News, the rescue was initiated after the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Accra, Ghana formally sought assistance from Nigerian authorities on September 15, 2025.

Victim Trafficked with False Promise of Travel to Canada

Investigations revealed that the victim and his father were lured into Nigeria in July 2025 by 25-year-old Ghanaian woman, Hassana Abban, who resides in Ofada, Ogun State. Abban allegedly promised to secure their travel to Canada after collecting 40,000 Ghanaian Cedis (?4.96 million) from them.

However, upon arrival, the traffickers seized their passports and mobile phones and forced them into labor on suspected fraudulent online trading platforms.

Arrests and Rescue Operation

On September 16, 2025, operatives from the INTERPOL Annex, FCID Alagbon, Lagos, tracked and rescued the victim. The primary suspect, Hassana Abban, was arrested alongside four alleged accomplices:

  • Odubuasi David (Nigerian)
  • Yahaya Salifu (Ghanaian)
  • Sherifa Haruna (Ghanaian)
  • Ebenezer Ofosu (Ghanaian)

All five suspects are currently in police custody, facing investigation for their roles in the trafficking scheme.

Victim Reunited with Family

Authorities confirmed that the rescued victim has since been reunited with his family in Ghana, while further investigations into the trafficking network are ongoing.

Police Commitment to Regional Security

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed the NPF’s dedication to combating human trafficking, cross-border crime, and transnational criminal syndicates.

“No criminal network operating across borders will escape justice. We will continue to strengthen cooperation with our regional partners to protect vulnerable victims,” IGP Egbetokun stated.
