Joan Laporta has been re-elected president of FC
Barcelona for another five-year term after defeating challenger Victor Font in
the club’s election held on Sunday.
Laporta secured a decisive victory, receiving 32,934
votes out of 48,480 cast by the club’s members, known as socios.
Font finished with 14,385 votes, while 984 ballots were left blank
and 177 were declared void.
Speaking after his victory was confirmed, Laporta
expressed gratitude to the club and its members, highlighting the importance of
democracy within the institution.
He thanked supporters for participating in the
election and described the passion of the members as one of the qualities that
make Barcelona unique.
The club revealed that 114,504 members were
eligible to vote, with 48,480 ballots cast, representing a 42.34
percent turnout.
Several notable figures associated with the club took
part in the voting process at Spotify Camp Nou, including head coach Hansi
Flick and members of the men’s first-team squad.
Laporta said the clear mandate from voters would give
his administration the strength to lead the club forward.
According to him, the coming years promise to be
exciting as the leadership works to defend and strengthen Barcelona both on and
off the pitch.
The election day also coincided with Barcelona’s 5–2
victory over Sevilla FC in a La Liga match. After the game, several players
— including Raphinha, Pedri, and Dani Olmo — cast their votes.
Ahead of the voting, Flick described the election as a
special moment for the club, noting that the democratic process reflects the
strong connection between Barcelona and its members.
