Former Chelsea FC midfielder Joe Cole has praised
Trevoh Chalobah, describing him as the club’s standout central defender at
present.
Cole expressed his admiration for Chalobah’s recent
performances, noting that the defender has made a strong impact since returning
to the squad. He also criticised the club’s earlier decision to loan him out to
Crystal Palace, suggesting it was a misstep.
Speaking on the Dressing Room Podcast, Cole
highlighted concerns over Chelsea’s defensive recruitment in recent years. He
pointed to players such as Marc Guehi, Chalobah, and Fikayo Tomori—all of whom
were allowed to leave—while the club invested heavily in new defenders.
Among those signings, he mentioned Benoît Badiashile,
Wesley Fofana, and Kalidou Koulibaly, questioning whether those decisions have
delivered the expected results.
Cole maintained that Chalobah has continued to grow
and improve, adding that his deep understanding of the club makes him a
valuable asset. He concluded by stating that allowing the defender to leave,
even temporarily, was a mistake given his current form and potential.
