The Kebbi State Government has established a special committee to investigate the controversial death of two children at the General Hospital Zuru.

The incident, which occurred earlier this week, reportedly involved two sisters who became critically ill shortly after receiving an injection at the facility, sparking public concern and allegations of medical negligence.

Governor Nasir Idris approved the formation of the panel following mounting pressure from residents and the victims’ family for a thorough investigation.

The development was announced in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi by the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Tafida.

According to the statement, the committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, with the Commissioners for Health, Sama’ila Augie, and Establishment, Manu Dogondaji, serving as members. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Zaki Abubakar Zaki, will act as secretary.

The panel has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive and impartial investigation to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the deaths, as well as to verify claims that the children were administered a wrong injection.

It is also expected to identify any individuals found culpable, recommend appropriate sanctions, and propose measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The government emphasized that it will not tolerate negligence within the healthcare system and assured that anyone found responsible will face the full weight of the law.

The committee has been given one week to submit its findings and has been directed to commence work immediately.

The incident has triggered outrage within the community, with calls for justice and accountability for the deceased children.
