It was a moment of pride and promise as Lagos State
delivered a show-stopping performance at the opening ceremony of the 22nd
National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, held at the MKO Abiola Sports
Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Among the distinguished guests at the high-profile
event was the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development,
Mobolaji Ogunlende Abubakre, who lauded the Lagos athletes for their
spectacular showcase during the march-past and cultural display.
“The Lagos athletes’ opening performance was indeed
impressive, showcasing their talent in grand style,” he said, visibly inspired
by the energy and unity of Team Lagos.
“I am confident that our team will excel and bring
home the championship title, living up to our reputation for excellence.”
With over 650 athletes representing Lagos across all
40 individual and team events, the state made a bold statement of readiness and
determination.
From their coordinated movement to their spirited
chants, the Lagos contingent lit up the arena, embodying the state’s relentless
drive for success.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State officially
declared the games open, noting that the festival goes beyond sports — it’s a
platform for national unity, youth empowerment, and talent discovery.
The MKO Abiola Sports Complex, recently upgraded to
international standards, provides a fitting stage for greatness, and Lagos
seems ready to seize the moment.
As the competitions unfold, expectations are high.
